Walter Springer was killed when shot down by anti-aircraft aboard a B-24 Liberator plane during a bombing mission over Berlin on 6 March 1944. Crew of 10 and one passenger, 3 bailed out and survived, 5 were found in the crash and buried. The other crew members were MIA and approximately one year later listed as Presumed Dead, killed in action, with a Finding of Death.
