The airplane was shot down by enemy aircraft. It was seen to blow up and spin down. Some parachutes were also obeserved. Five crew members were taken prisoner, four were killed. They were initially buried at the community cemetery of Königshorst.According to statements of surviving crew members, Sgt Cangemi bailed out and was injured when he hit the ground. Further information about what happened is not available.
