1st Lt Donald J. Andreas attended Michigan State College and worked for the Olofsson Tool and Die Co.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Detroit, Michigan, on 30 November 1942 and was sent overseas in July 1944.

His daughter Susan Jo was born three days after Lt Andreas was killed.

The airplane was shot down by enemy aircraft. It was seen to blow up and spin down. Some parachutes were also observed. Five crew members were taken prisoner, and four were killed. They were initially buried at the community cemetery of Königshorst.

He had participated in 16 missions.
