T/5 Stephen R. Mendrey attended East Pikeland School and was a social member of the George A. Amole Post 47 American Legion in Pottstown. He later worked at the Woolen Mill in Bridgeport.He enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 10 February 1942 and snet overseas in January 1944..
His unit landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy on 11 July 1944 and went into action eight days later.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Saint James, France.
