Pvt Fischer was inducted into the army on Nov. 19, 1943, and received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He spent a two weeks furlough at his home in May, 1944, and then reported to Fort Meade, Md. Later he was transferred to Camp Rucker, Ala., for a month, and then returned to Fort Meade from where he went overseas in England in August, 1944. From England his unit went to France, and later Belgium.
