Pfc Burton L. Houseknecht graduated from Muncy-Muncy Creek High School with the class of 1940.

He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 15 December 1942.

He was a veteran of the North African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns and landed in Normandy a few hours before the D-Day landings started.

Pfc Houseknecht was wounded on D-day and sent back to England for treatment, but later joined his unit and took part in Operation Market-Garden.
