Carl Joseph enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 6 October 1942. He fought in Africa, Italy and Sicily with the 82nd Airborne. He was killed in Normandy but at that time could not be identified. Fort this reason, his remains were transferred to the identification center at Ardennes Cemetery in Belgium.
