Donald E. Janotta attended Norwalk High School and Assumption College and was employed by Woolworth's Inc. in Cincinnati.

He enlisted at Camp Wheeler, Georgia on 5 December 1941 and was sent overseas in March 1943.

He had been wounded in Sicily for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He also fought at Salerno, Italy and participated in the invasion of Normandy.

At one time he was taken prisoner by the Germans and later escaped.

The exact date on which he was reported wounded in action and the location where he died is not known.

A sister, Cpl Loretta Janotta served with the Women's Army Corps in Italy and a brother, Robert Janotta also was in military service.
