2nd Lt Martin S. Drobner graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa.He enlisted at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 1 April 1943. He was sent to Officer's Training Course at Fort Benning, and was commissioned on 12 September 1943. With his age of nineteen, he was one of the youngest officers in the U.S. Army. He was sent overseas in July 1944 and was based in England, training with troops until going into combat service early 1945.
