Pvt Virgil L. Burks attended high school for 1 year and worked on a farm.He enlisted in Little Rock, Arkansas on 10 September 1943.
Nine American soldiers were buried at two different spots by a local farmer in February 1945. Burks' grave was situated in a field between Mook and Katerbosch. He was disinterred and evacuated to Margraten, where he was reburied in a temporary grave on 15 July 1945.
After the cemetery was given a permanent status he was given his finale resting place on 23 February 1949.
