More information
S/Sgt Paul J. Ebert attended Harding High School. He enlisted in Fort Hayes, Ohio on 24 March 1942.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 15 June 1944, near ****, France. After S/Sgt Ebert's platoon leader and platoon sergeant became casualties, S/Sgt Ebert took command of his platoon during a fierce enemy counterattack in which the enemy was able to drive a wedge into S/Sgt Ebert's line. Staff Sergeant Ebert rallied his platoon and drove the enemy out of the gap, again making contact with the remainder of his unit. The enemy brought up tanks in an attempt to penetrate the line again. S/Sgt Ebert rallied his platoon and attacked the tanks with rifle grenades and bazookas, and after one tank was destroyed, the rest of the enemy tanks retreated. Staff Sergeant Ebert led his unit in an attack in pursuit of the enemy. This action allowed the rest of S/Sgt Ebert's unit to continue the attack and reach its objective.
