Herman Peck graduated from Altoona High School in 1935. He was employed in the steel shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company.He enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 4 June 1941 and was stationed at Washington D.C. as a guard for a time. After serving at Fort Benning, Georgia as a mortar gun instructor, he was sent overseas..
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek, the Netherlands. on 9 October 1944.
