Pfc James E. Miller graduated from Appleton High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin in a pre-law course in September 1941 and finished one and a one-half years.He enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin on 6 November 1942 and was selected for the officer's training school at Camp Maxey, Texas. He was sent overseas on 29 September 1943.
