Pfc Mark G. Griffith Jr. enlisted in Camp Croft, South Carolina on 25 November 1942. He attended Matthews High School. He was employed at Camp Van Dorn, MS; Louisiana; Camp Maxey in Texas, Camp Miles Standish, Boston, MA; Le Havre, France, Rhine River, Germany.Pfc Griffith was killed in action near Fredeburg, Germany and first buried with the Protestant faith in a military cemetery in Ittenbach, Germany.
