Raymond D. Miller initially enlisted in the Air Corps in January 1943 and was later transferred to the infantry. He had been overseas for only ten days when he was killed.

His brother, S/Sgt Oliver Miller, served with the Air Corps and was killed in action over New Ireland on 15 February 1944.
