Charles Barrett enlisted before graduating from Suffern High School and had been overseas since October 1944.His father, Carroll Barrett, was an electrician's mate 3/c serving with the U.S Navy in the Mariannas.
A brother, Ward, only 17 at the time, was with the Naval Air Force in boot training in Memphis, Tennessee.
