More information
2nd Lt Patrick F. Flaherty Jr. worked in a garage before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Boston, Massachusetts on 10 April 1942.The aircraft was attacked by fighters. One of the crew members tried to throw Patrick“s body out of the aircraft. He had lifted him from his seat at the chin turret and lay him down with his head on an ammunition box and then determined that nothing could be done for him, for he apparently was killed instantly by 20 mm cannon shells. He was still in the aircraft when it crashed.
Three crew members were killed, seven were taken prisoner.
