T/Sgt William J. Dwelley graduated from Anacortes High School in 1934 where he participated in basketball and music and attended college before he was employed as a millwright.

He enlisted in Tacoma, Washington on 20 October 1942.

The airplane was lost as the result of enemy aircraft attacks and was last seen near the Dutch coast. It is assumed the airplane crashed into the sea, north of Texel. All crew members are still missing in action and are all remembered at the Walls of the Missing at Margraten.

He is remembered at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in La Conner, Skagit County, Washington.

His picture was taken in high school in 1934.
