Alfred A Johnson attended high school for 2 years and was a locomotive fireman. He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in New York City, New York on 21 August 1942.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters. According to the statement of a surviving crew member, he helped S/Sgt Johnson putting on his parachute and he tried to make him bail out bur he refused.

Eight crew members survived and were taken prisoner, two were killed and were initially buried at the Mermorial Cemetery for Enemy Dead at Quernheim on 9 October 1943.
