1st Lt George Evancho graduated fromDuryea High School and worked for the Komensky Meat Market.He graduated from Deming Army Air Field School of Bombardiers in December 1943.
The aircraft rammed A/C 42-97407 after it was hit by flak over the target at 1318 hours. The entire crew was killed.
It was 1st Lt Evancho's 25th mission.
He was initially buried in Raschwitz, Germany. After the war, his body was transferred to the Ardennes Cemetery.
At the request of his family, George's remains were then transferred to Margraten cemetery where he found his final resting place next to his brother Peter Evancho.
His brother Michael served with the U.S. Navy in the Southwest Pacific at the time of his death.
