More information

In the MACR it is reported that the plane proceeded towards the mission in Duren, but above Tilburg it was hit by flak and then turned back. Together with 4 crew members, when the aircraft was 10 miles from the coast of Rotterdam, he jumped off the plane and was recorded as MIA. The plane, with 6 other crew members, flew to England and landed there.
The plane itself, in a later mission, crashed on 22 June 1944.
"#23312, flak hit No. 1 engine, causing complete failure. 30 caliber damage to left wing and fuel tanks". The next comment is from the Narrative Report which stated: "Four crew members from ship 312 parachuted out over channel, reason unknown."
There was obviously a mistake in the radio communications within the aircraft, as only part of the crew bailed out, but the pilot regained control of the aircraft, and it returned to the base.
