More information
In the MACR can be found that the plane was flying towards the mission in Duren, above Tilburg was hit by flak and then turned back. Together with 4 crew members, he was 10 miles from the coast of Rotterdam, jumped off the plane and was recorded as MIA. The plane with 6 other crew members flew to England and landed there. The plane itself, in a later mission, crashed on 22 June 1944.
"#23312, flak hit No. 1 engine causing complete failure. 30 caliber damage was recorded to left wing and fuel tanks". The next comment is from the Narrative Report which stated: "Four crew members from ship 312 parachuted out over channel, reason unknown."
There was obviously a mistake in the radio communications within the aircraft, as only part of the crew bailed out, but the pilot regained control of the aircraft and it returned to the base.
