Cpl Bernard O. Hutcherson was a chauffeur with the Watson-Ross-Johnson Transport Co. before he enlisted at Camp Wolters , Texas on 14 March 1944.

He was reported seriously wounded in action and evacuated to a hospital on 26 December 1944. At that moment his unit was engaged in the fighting south of Kehmen, Luxembourg.
One of Cpl Hutcherson’s squad members was wounded and was helped by an aid man. The aid man called for assistance to evacuate the wounded man.
Cpl Hutcherson went over to help. During the evacuation he was fatally wounded himself.
