Pvt Sanford D. Hufstetler attended high school for one year and worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Fort McPherson, Atlanta Georgia on 5 September 1944.

He was severely wounded in action by small arms fire in the abdomen on 15 March 1945. The exact location to where he was evacuated en where he died, is not known.
