Cpl Norbert W. Bruns enlisted on 17 December 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: On 25 December 1944, in the attack on Kehmen, Luxembourg, Cpl Bruns, by skillfully using rifle grenades, neutralized enemy strong points and personally captured an enemy machine gunner who had been delaying the attack. On the following day Cpl Bruns with rifle grenades destroyed two enemy machine gun positions and alone assaulted and destroyed another gun and crew.
