Pfc Joseph J. Ebel attended 4 years of high school and was an employer of the So Sioux Oil Co. before he enlisted on 14 February 1942.On 19 September he was seriously wounded in action in the vicinity of Pont–à-Mousson and brought to the 60th Field Hospital that was situated in Dieulouard.
