More information

2nd Lt Joseph H. Joffe was the first in the family to go to college and graduated from Rutgers University. He became a journalist and wrote about sports for newspapers in New Jersey.

He enlisted in Trenton, New Jersey on 31 January 1941. He was sent overseas in September 1943.

The existing reports are conflicting but show that anti-aircraft fire was heavy and that there were German fighters in the area, but no one saw the airplane go down. It is assumed that it crashed into the North Sea. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
