2nd Lt David T. Emery Jr. was a post office clerk.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 28 March 1942.

Both on the way out and the way home, the formations passed Denmark, where German fighters attacked the bombers. On the return flight, A/C 42-3554 was attacked by fighters. Five crew members bailed out before the plane exploded about 10 miles southwest of Blaavandshuk and were taken prisoner. The other five crew members were killed.

2nd Lt Emery's body was washed ashore on 11 November 1943 at the beach of Fjaltring, Jutland.

Three crew members are still listed as missing in action and are listed on the Walls of the Missing at Cambridge Cemetery: William F. Whelan, Frank E. Tomlinson, Fred Rodway.
