Sgt Walter L. Landers Jr. attended Rome High School before he enlisted with the Air Corps on 30 March 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia.Last seen to hit water about 10 minutes off Island of Nordernay w/one engine on fire, tail chewed up. On 26 July 1943 when it failed to return due to a mid-air collision with a German fighter and crashed in the North Sea.
Sgt Landers is memorialized at East View Cemetery in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia.
