1st Lt Verus M. Langham joined the Regular Army a first time on 26 January 1934 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He re-enlisted on 5 April 1937 in Harrisburg and was sent to the Phillipinnes. He re-enlisted a third time on 20 September 1939. He was sent overseas on 9 July 1943.He was reported missing in action on 30 December 1944 in the vicinity of Sigolsheim France. Later it was clear that he had been wounded in action and taken prisoner. He died of his wounds in a German hospital in Emmendingen, Germany.
His brother, Sgt Frederick D. Langham, a bombardier in a B-29, was reported missing in action over the sea of Japan on 15 April 1945. He is remembered at the Honolulu Memorial.
