S/Sgt Melvin S. Hatt attended high school for four years and was employed by Berkshire Knitting mills as an operator before he enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 2 July 1942. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

He is remembered at the Sinking Spring Cemetery in his hometown.
