Pfc Willard E. Dahl was convicted for jail braking in 1938 and robbery in 1939. In 1939 he was given a 10 year penalty, and became an inmate at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa on 30 March 1939. On 18 June 1939 he was transferred to the Iowa State Reformatory in Anamosa where he was paroled on 28 November 1942.

He enlisted on 12 December 1942.

He was killed by a bullet in his abdomen.
