Sgt. Marvin A. Onley was employed at Hampton's Poultry Market.He enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 26 May 1941 and joined his unit from the 48th Replacement Battalion on 30 July 1944.
His brother T/4 Garland H. Onley, died as a POW in Camp O'Donnell in the Philippines. He is interred at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial.
The family's last name had another spelling - Ownley.
He and his brother are remembered at the Westlawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina.
