Pvt Eugene A. Lockwood enlisted in Camp Croft, South Carolina on 10 February 1943. He trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was selected for the Army specialized Training Program and took a course in basic engineering at the University of Maryland. When this program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry.
