More information

Just before bombs away the airplane received a direct flak hit at the waist window. The B-17 broke in two and immediately went straight down. It blew up at a lower altitude and (scattered) crashed at Zettweil, Germany.

The plane (a greater part of it) crashed between Zettweil and Pölha into a small house, 12 kilometers west of Altenburg, Germany.

The remains of crew members were found in Zettweil and in Pöhla.

One crew member was even found dead on 14 August 1944 in a field in the vicinity of Naundorf, a few kilometers south of the crashsite.

One crew member survived, nine were killed.
