1st Lt Robert W. Eklind was a graduate of St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin and Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.

He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at Rhone American Cemetery in France. His remains were subsequently recovered, identified and interred at the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
