Earl Boies was a mechanic.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Los Angeles, California on 15 December 1941.

The airplane was hit by flak and attacked by enemy fighters near the Initial Point. It left the formation due to damage. Some of the crew members bailed out at that time. Shortly thereafter, the airplane went out of control.

Four crew members were taken prisoner, six men were killed.
