Ray Ferrell attended Longview High School and the University of Texas.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Tyler, Texas on 30 November 1942.
The airplane was rammed by a Me-109 after the bomb run. It blew up and disintegreated.
Two crew members were taken prisoner, eight men were killed.
S/Sgt Ferrell was initially buried at the cemetery of Münsterdorf, Germany.
