S/Sgt Virgilio Jacoby enlisted on 15 July 1942 at Camden, New Jersey.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters. Four crew members were taken prisoner, and six men were killed.

S/Sgt Jacoby went down with the airplane. Fire caught him before he could bail out.

He was initially buried at the community cemetery of Bischbrunn, Germany.
