Carl J. Hart attended Williston Academy in Easthampton, Massachusetts.The airplane was hit by flak. The tail was blown off in front of the horizontal stabilizer. The airplane nosed over straight down, out of control, and was lost in the clouds.
Four crew members were taken prisoner and five men were killed.
