More information
I was flying number two in Captain Scott“s flight, and after making a pass on and shooting down one FW 190, I rejoined Captain Scott. After making one circle Captain Scott started diving and called me on the radio saying his coolant regulator was out, and that he was hitting the deck and going home. At that moment someone from the 429th Fighter Squadron came in on our right and said he saw Captain Scott and was going home with him. I saw a FW 190 above and to the left, upon breaking into him he half rolled and headed East, I then joined number three and four. When we left Captain Scott we were approximately 8,000 feet, Southeast of Aachen, just east of the front lines.Statement from John D. Heckert, 2nd Lt, A.C.
