More information

2nd Lt Reginald A. Pitzer worked in the production of petroleum before he joined the Regular Army in San Antonio, Texas on 4 December 1942.

Statement from 2nd Lt Max Hagemeyer:
"On 5 November 1944, I was flying Number three position in Blue flight, when Lt. Pitzer, who was flying Number two position in the same flight, was hit by either 20 mm or 40 mm fire. When the 88 mm flak began bursting in the middle of our flight, Blue # 1 and # 2 broke down to the right and I took my element up to the left. After I had cleared myself of the 88 mm fire, I looked back and saw Lt Pitzer’s plane a solid mass of fire. His plane flew straight and level for a few seconds and then began a long gentle downward turn to the right, I watched him burn all the way down and saw his plane hit the ground in flames. I saw no parachutes open."

Lt Pitzer is remembered at the Saint Marys Cemetery in Bayside, Refugio County, Texas.
