His father was born in Poland. John Klapper was born in Chicago and shortly afterwards accompanied his parents to Poland where he resided until 1928 and then returned to the United States. The rest of his family stayed in Poland.He enlisted in June 1941 and received his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and later at Camp Cooke in California.
He was sent overseas to England begin 1944.
He was reported wounded in action and spent two months in the hospital before he died of his wounds.
