2nd Lt John E. Lynch graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and the joined Ohio National Guard immediately after leaving school.

"I just can't make it out. I can't see any reason to this war. One minute you see boys you know smiling and full of life - the next they are just a mass of flesh and bones", he wrote his wife Marjorie in his last letter.
