More information

2nd Lt Robert B. Warner joined the Regular Army in Portland, Maine, on 4 November 1942.

1st Lt. Frederick A. Couch:
"I was leading screen flight, and 2nd Lt Robert B. Warner was flying my wing. I started my dive-bombing run at about 18,000 feet, released my bombs at about 7,000 feet, and pulled off to the left of the target. As I pulled up, I looked back and saw the no. 2 airplane about two or three thousand feet below me, out of control. I am certain the fuselage was in one piece, and by the position of the airplane at the time, I thought the plane was all together. The left wing was toward me, and I know it was on the plane, but I cannot say about the right wing. I watched the plane fall to the ground and saw no chute. The plane did not explode, but there was a small flash of flame, and then it smouldered. I estimate I was going 400-425 mph when I released my bombs."
