T/4 Ellin J. Walters was a farmhand.On 17 and 18 January 1945 in the vicinity of Reipertwiller, the light tanks of the 191th Tank Battalion were supporting the 157th Infantry Regiment. They had to bring ammunition to the front line.
After delivering the ammunition one tank returned but was ambushed by the enemy. and his tank was hit by a panzerfaust. The crew attempted to get to the American lines, but T/4 Walters never reached the lines.
