Pfc Joseph M. Hartley was a driver before he enlisted at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 26 February 1944.His remains were found in May 1982 while workers were putting in a pipeline on a farm in Hartungshof, near Saarbrucken, Germany. He was identified in July 1982 and buried at the National Cemetery in Beaufort on 11 August 1982.
He is also remembered at the Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina.
