1st Lt Robert P. Gilmore volunteered for the U.S. Army in Manchester, New Hampshire, on 28 January 1942.

He attended high school for 4 years.

Statement from 1st Lt Arthur B. Schottman:
"The left engine of the plane was hit by flak on the bomb run, the plane nosed up and drifted off to the right of formation. The plane was out of control when last sighted. One chute was seen to leave the ship. Plane would have landed on West edge of Paris, France. There was no reported observation of plane crashing."

Lt Gilmore was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Solers, France.
