Marc F. Pitts graduated from Wilmington High School attended Northwestern University and the University of Delaware and was a salesman.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Wilmington, Delaware on 20 January 1942.
His determination to be a flier arose from the fact that his father was an aviator in World War I. He was sent overseas in March 1943.
The airplane was hit by flak at bombs away and crashed north of Bremen, Germany. Seven crew members survived and were taken prisoner, two men were killed.
