T/Sgt Lyle C. Woods graduated from Plankinton High School in 1932 where he was the valedictorian. He worked on the farm of his father.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 7 January 1942.
On the way back, the airplane was attacked by enemy fighters. It ditsched in the English Channel, off the coast of Dieppe, France.
The entire crew of ten men was killed.
